(1992) an interactive artwork
Cynthia’s designs silk-screened on Lexan squares, ball-bearings with springs system on a grooved, wall-mounted grid; commissioned by the Discovery Museum, Bridgeport, CT. Its mission was to give museum visitors “agency” over composing the graphic elements of a public artwork.
For the interactive system of this artwork, I conceptually connected the silk-screened squares of my patchwork quilts to the moveable tiles of the palm-held, 2D, “sliding puzzle” popular in the 1950s-1980s. The engineering company, Windigo in New Jersey, collaborated with me to make it work!
